What you missed in marketing: October 19 to 25, 2026

Two ad platforms can rewrite your ads by Friday, Walmart gives AI shoppers their own door, and Gemini starts suggesting the places your customers saved. Five stories, what they mean for your business, and what to do this week.

This week, two ad platforms told advertisers that their software will start editing ads on its own unless someone says no. Google started doing something similar with your videos. The rest of the week was about assistants: who they shop for, what they remember, and what they read about you.

Here is the week of October 19, 2026, in short. Each story links to a full post that explains it and says what to do.

The one with a deadline

Two ad platforms can rewrite your ads by Friday. OpenAI emailed advertisers on October 20 that ChatGPT Ads will switch on "creative enhancement" by default. It can rewrite headlines and descriptions, translate text, resize images and send the click to a different page on your site, and OpenAI's email says those versions "can run automatically without requiring you to review or approve each version." Meta's revised terms take effect October 30. As reported by Adweek, they make advertisers solely responsible for what Meta's AI features create or change, including features Meta turns on itself. Google, meanwhile, now pulls videos from your social accounts, landing page and YouTube into new Performance Max campaigns by default. Read: two ad platforms can rewrite your ads this week

Two about the assistants your customers use

Walmart gave AI agents a front door. On October 21, Walmart announced Agent Profiles: a separate profile for each AI agent inside a customer's account, with approval for every purchase or a spending limit the customer sets. It also opened a beta gateway for agents and published rules they must follow. Walmart's own comparison: "Think about it like adding someone as a cardholder on your credit card." Gemini now knows which places your customer saved. With the person's permission, Gemini can now use their Google Maps searches and saved places alongside their calendar to suggest where to go. A business your customer saved once can come back up at the right moment. Read: Gemini now knows which places your customer saved

Yours to do this week

Open your ad accounts and choose which AI features stay on. Ask happy customers to save you on Google Maps. Answer your newest bad review in public.

Most of this week's news was software doing something on your behalf. The work left for you is deciding what it is allowed to do.

Two from Google, about your profile

Google is building a Business Profile hub on Gemini. Google Business Home is a closed beta in the US and UK that puts Business Profile, Merchant Center, YouTube and Ads in one place, with AI suggestions on what to post and do next. Two other profile changes were spotted this week as unconfirmed tests: new performance reports, and verifying a profile with a government ID. Google can't say when it will rule on your review. Google told businesses this week that review appeals are taking longer than usual and that it "cannot provide a specific response timeframe for pending cases." Google is also testing ads that scroll a business's ratings and reviews. Read: Google can't say when it will rule on your review

What to do this week

  1. Decide on ChatGPT Ads creative enhancement before October 29

If you run ChatGPT Ads, open Ads Manager settings and choose on or off on purpose.

  2. Read what Meta's AI is changing in your ads

Meta's new terms start October 30. Turn off the Advantage+ features you would not sign your name to.

  3. Check what Google borrowed

In new Performance Max campaigns, look at the sourced videos and keep only the ones you would run yourself.

  4. Ask regulars to save you on Google Maps

Then make sure the hours, location and services they will see are right.

  5. Answer your newest bad review in public

Do it calmly and with facts, and file one appeal, not two.
